Second Bath Demo: Switching from Demo to Construction

D has been hard at work on the second bathroom. With the generous help of his father, the bathroom has gone from the "demolition" phase to the "reconstruction" phase. The walls have been insulated, the ceiling is in place, the lights switches re-wired for GFCI. The new tub is installed and the pluming complete.

Cement board installed for the tile. Tub is in and ready.

Extra insulation will make the room cozy and quiet.

Better view of the tub and surround.

I've found that the term we've been using for the new privacy area has been confusing. We call it a "half wall" but it's not half in height, it's half in length. It will provide a little "nook" for the toilet and while it won't be totally private, it will be much improved over the old layout.
I made a little illustration of our layout before and after. It's not to scale. With the new sinks being more long and narrow, we gained just under a half of a foot in floor space between the tub and vanity. Moving the toilet was not an option but I really like our solution to gain more usable square footage.

View towards the entry door. The giant insulation roll
is where the toilet will go. Notice the new wall and light.

After a few more boards go up for the walls, we'll be ready for the floor tile and the wall tile. Then the toilet can be installed to make the bathroom semi-usable...at least for late night emergency potty stops.

We're lucky to be able to use the Loft as storage.
